Holiday Greetings, winter wellness warriors! It is the most festive time of the year, especially here in New England as the first dusting of snow evokes a bit of childlike excitement in (most) all of us. Ah yes, it is still early on in the winter season when we welcome the cozy vibes and cold weather. This is also the time of year when we come together in celebrations of all forms. From 'friendsgivings' to holiday parties to new year’s extravaganzas – the opportunities to rejoice are endless.
While the plethora of parties this season may excite some, for others it can be a challenging time to cope with overindulgence. While the occasional clink of a champagne flute can certainly be heard among us Be Well Babes, we recognize how much better we feel when we make the choice to pass on booze and imbibe with one our favorite wellness mocktails instead. If you feel like scaling back on adult beverages may not actually be a bad idea this holiday season – here are some equally festive and non-alcoholic alternatives to try:
Maine Kombucha Spritzer
A Maine classic.
Splash of Green Bee Lemon Sparkling Water
Fresh Squeezed Lemon Wedge
Pour kombucha on ice, add a splash of lemon soda, stir in a spoonful of frozen Wyman’s wild blueberries, and top with a squeeze of fresh lemon.
Not Your Average Ginger
This recipe is from Royal Rose Syrups, a small batch, organic simple syrup company located in Newcastle, Maine. We love it so much, we had to share.
2 oz Freshly Squeezed Orange Juice
1/2 oz Royal Rose Ginger-Lime Organic Syrup
Soda
Add OJ and syrup to a shaker with ice and shake. Strain into a cocktail glass with fresh ice. Top with soda water and garnish with a lime wheel.
Mele Kalikimaka
For those of us who aren't quite ready to embrace the cold, here's a mocktail to transport you to some serious tropical vibes.
2 oz Coconut Water
Lime Wedge, Fresh Mint Leaves & Sugarcane
Muddle mint and lime in the bottom of glass. Fill with ice then add coconut water and lemonade. Top with a splash of soda water and stir with a sugarcane stick.
Sweet Like Honey
This warm tea, honey and milk mixture is the perfect concoction to warm your belly and delight your sweet tooth on a cold winter’s night. While this one can certainly be enjoyed at a party, honestly we prefer to enjoy it at home in our Be Well sweatshirt and L.L. Bean slippers.
Prepare a hot cup of tea using the Birthday Cake Blend from Homegrown Herb & Tea, a specialty tea shop on Portland’s East End
Add a spoonful of Mindful Earth’s Hemp Honey – we like the Cacao Coconut or the Tulsi & Rose with this blend
Top with steamed milk
Sip & enjoy!
